Why this shape: Verona and Siena sit on opposite sides of the route, so doing both in one direction would mean backtracking. Splitting them — Verona down, Siena back — breaks each long drive with a great overnight and barely adds distance. Landing in the north (Olbia) and ferrying home from the south (Cagliari) lets them see both ends of the island without driving the same road twice.

Cost breakdown (two people, room shared): ferries ~€490 · hotels 7 nights ~€805 · food ~€600 · boat trips + sights ~€280 · Italian tolls ~€130 · misc ~€80. ≈ €2,400 total / €1,200 each / ≈ CHF 2,200. Fuel excluded (company car). Swiss motorway vignette CHF 40 if the car doesn't already have one.

Two honest flags: (1) The last day, Siena → Worb, is a long ~7.5 h drive — the overnight ferry the night before means they start it rested, but it's a full driving day. (2) Late-June is peak season starting on the Costa Smeralda: book the two ferries and the north-coast hotels first, the rest can stay flexible.

🚭 Vape / nicotine: legal and sold everywhere across Switzerland and Italy (Sardinia included). No border or transit issues anywhere on this route — it's all road and domestic Italian ferries.
